Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Erwin Rucal, 39, of Newark, for an incident of attempted murder that occurred on Wednesday, March 13th, 2019.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., police responded to a North Ward residence on a call of an assault. A woman was assaulted by a man she knows. The victim suffered a knife wound and was transported to University Hospital for treatment.

Detectives investigating this incident have identified Erwin Rucal as a suspect in this incident and secured a warrant for his arrest on charges of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

Rucal fled to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he was apprehended on Friday, March 15th.

These charges are merely accusations. This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
