Winter Storm Warning until 06:00AM Wednesday

Snow will continue to pile up above 9500 feet across the Tusas and Sangre de Cristo Mountains through early Wednesday. Though periods of heavy snow will be possible through tonight, the heaviest snow is expected from mid day Tuesday through early Wednesday as a Pacific cold front shifts through the area. In addition to snow that has already fallen, another 10 to 20 inches are expected above 9500 feet, however, snow levels will lower Tuesday night, and a few to several inches are likely below 9500 feet.

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 10 to 20 inches are expected above 9500 feet. Below 9500 feet, rain will mix with snow through Tuesday, however 2 to 10 inches of snow are likely Tuesday night into early Wednesday. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph Tuesday and Tuesday night.

* WHERE...San Juan or Tusas Mountains, Northern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet including Red River and Southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet,

* WHEN...Until 6 AM MDT Wednesday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible over high mountain passes. Heavy wet snow will be difficult to shovel. Those shoveling should take frequent breaks. Additionally, the weight of the snow could topple weak structures.

* AFFECTED AREAS: SOUTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTOS ABOVE 9500 FEET ... NORTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTOS ABOVE 9500 FEET/RED RIVER ... SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS
