The Rotary Club of Green Bay and the Green Bay Police Department are proud to announce that Community Police Officers Craig Carlson and Mark Strojny have been nominated to receive the Community Service Award. This award recognizes excellence in Public Safety. Officers Strojny and Carlson are community police officers assigned to district C, which is the downtown area, of the City of Green Bay. Together, Officers Carlson and Strojny have been instrumental in revitalizing parks, trails, and most importantly the neighborhoods which they patrol.

Together, Officer Carlson and Strojny hold approximately 40 years of experience which has proved to be invaluable to the citizens of Green Bay. They have held various positions within the department and in each of them, they have provided service beyond excellence in policing. The Community Service Award was created by the Rotary Club to highlight officers who influence others and inspire others to make the City of Green Bay a desirable place to live, work, and raise a family. Although there are several officers within the Green Bay Police Department deserving of this award, Officers Carlson and Strojny have had proven success in enhancing the quality of life for every citizen in the City of Green Bay.

Both Officer Carlson and Strojny work tirelessly each and every day to work hard and treat people right. The two are partnered in the downtown area and can often be seen patrolling on bicycles at the farmers market on Saturdays downtown, walking foot beats along the beautiful Fox River Trail, and patrolling the downtown neighborhoods, businesses, and apartment buildings to ensure order and peace is maintained.

Officer Carlson and Strojny work extremely well together and have built a working relationship which allows them to excel at solving crime and improving neighborhoods in the area which they patrol. During the week of January 14th, they partnered with other officers to track down suspects involved in a robbery spree, which occurred the night before. Their efforts and experience of working together has inspired others. With teamwork from several officers that night, they were successful in apprehending two suspects wanted for robbery, even when one suspect was hiding in an attic.

As community police officers, Officers Carlson and Strojny have embraced the meaning of service and gratitude. They patrol neighborhoods on department bicycles to engage residents, learn about the concerns and problems in the neighborhoods, and engage the youth in the community. Their presence in the neighborhood is exceptional and desired not only by other officers but by the citizens who live in their neighborhoods. In between their work in the neighborhoods, they join in playing basketball with the youth, talking to youth at summer programs at the YWCA, and being visible in the parks for our “Safe Park initiative.”

“Officers Carlson and Strojny are everywhere,” said Operations Commander Kevin Warych. “These officers work hard every day and the citizens of Green Bay should be proud that these officers are in their neighborhoods,” said Warych.

Officer Carlson and Strojny feed off of each other and inspire the next generation of police officers. Their hard work and dedication to our community should be an example for all of us to follow. As a department and a community, we are proud of their service and thankful for their efforts. Officer Carlson and Strojny consistently patrol the streets of Green Bay with a positive attitude with the goal of making a difference. They are dedicated to the mission and the people of our community.
