Deputies arrest a subject after a high speed pursuit in a stolen vehicle & find he is on probation for vehicle theft

DATE/TIME: Thursday, March 7, 2019 / 8:08 a.m.

INCIDENT: VC 2800.2(a) – Felony Evading / PC 496D(a) – Possession of a Stolen Vehicle

LOCATION: Greenspot Rd. / Church St., Highland

SUSPECT: Josiah Cosner, 19 years old, transient from Redlands

SUMMARY:
On Thursday, March 8, 2019 at 8:08 A.M., deputies assigned to the Highland Police Department were dispatched to the area of Greenspot Rd. and Church St. in reference to a white Honda Civic, reported stolen to the Banning Police Department on March 6, 2019. Deputies were checking the area when they located the vehicle traveling north on Church St.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield after stopping momentarily. The driver of the vehicle drove recklessly with a willful wanton disregard for public safety at high speeds and through several controlled intersections in the cities of Highland, San Bernardino and Redlands without stopping. Due to the suspect’s reckless and dangerous driving, the pursuit was terminated, and the vehicle was followed by Sheriff’s Aviation. The suspect and sole occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Josiah Cosner, parked the vehicle in the carport of an apartment complex in the area of Brockton Ave. and Post St. in the city of Redlands. Cosner fled from the vehicle on foot before he was taken into custody.
Cosner was released from the Glen Helen Detention Center on March 4, 2019 after serving 24 days for vehicle theft. He was sentenced to serve 180 days of work release with three years of probation.
Cosner was booked into the West Valley Detention Center and faces charges of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Evading and a Violation of his probation. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in San Bernardino on March 11, 2019 to be arraigned for the new charges and March 12, 2019 for a violation of his probation.
