High Wind Warning until 04:00AM Saturday

Another round of strong southwest to west winds will continue this afternoon and tonight. Widespread wind gusts of 50 to 65 mph will be common across most of New Mexico. Parts of Socorro, Lincoln, Torrance, and San Miguel counties may see wind gusts as high as 75 mph. Blowing dust will develop over much of the area this afternoon and evening with visibility reductions below one half mile at times in dust prone areas. Winds will fall below advisory and warning strength from the central mountains eastward in the pre-dawn hours Saturday morning.

* LOCATION...A large area from the southern Sangre de Cristos to the south central mountains eastward across the highlands to the east and the east central plains.

* WINDS...Southwest to west winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts of 50 to 65 mph.

* TIMING...Winds will increase this afternoon and peak tonight, before decreasing in the pre-dawn hours Saturday morning.

* VISIBILITY...Locally reduced in blowing dust.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Strong crosswinds will create difficult travel conditions, including I-40, especially for high profile vehicles. Damage to trees, power lines, and weak or light weight structures is possible.
