MAJOR CRIMES TASK FORCE TRACKS DOWN ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT
DATE / TIME: Saturday, March 2, 2019 at approximately 4:35 PM
LOCATION: Linden Street at Sixth Street, Pomona Ca.
CRIME: 211PC – Armed Robbery
VICTIM: Rafael Jimenez, 47 years old, Pomona Resident
SUSPECT: Alfonso Antonio Lopez, 32 years old, Pomona Resident
SUSPECT VEHICLE: Gray, 2006, Nissan, Altima
UNIT: Major Crimes Task Force
NARRATIVE:
On March 1, 2019, at approximately 4:50 AM, victim Jimenez was stopped in his vehicle at the Good Tyme Car Wash, located at 475 E. Mission Boulevard. The suspect arrived in a gray Nissan Altima, pulled a ski-mask over his head, approached the victim, and demanded money while exposing the handle of a firearm from his waistband. The victim gave the suspect his wallet and money because he feared for his life. The suspect fled the scene but not before being captured on video surveillance cameras.
On March 1, 2019, the investigation was handed over to the Major Crimes Task Force. The Major Crimes Task Force began actively investigating the suspect for armed robbery and several other possibly related crimes that included kidnapping and discharging a firearm in a negligent manner. The Major Crimes Task Force used investigative techniques and leads to determine the suspect’s whereabouts.
On March 2, 2019, the Major Crimes Task Force was conducting undercover surveillance when they spotted the suspect in the alley near Linden at Sixth Street. When officers attempted to contact the suspect, he fled a short distance on foot before he was taken into custody and arrested for armed robbery. The suspect was later transported and booked at the Pomona city jail.
