Winter Storm Warning until 06:00PM Sunday
A Pacific storm system will quickly move through northern New Mexico starting this afternoon through Sunday. Snow showers will begin over the far northwest an Tusas Mountains before expanding and increasing in intensity over the west slopes of the Jemez and Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Snow levels will be higher with ample moisture associated with this system producing 4 to 10 inches of snow from 7,500 to 9,500 feet with higher amounts of one to two feet above 9,500 feet. Snow showers will gradually taper off through Sunday afternoon.
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches expected, except 8 to 16 inches above 9,500 feet. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
* WHERE...Northern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet including Red River and Southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet.
* WHEN...From 2 PM this afternoon to 6 PM MST Sunday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
