Residents were awakened by a suspect breaking into their home; deputies arrived and suspect was arrested

SUSPECT: Ricart Gutierrez, 42 years old, resident of Fontana

SUMMARY:
On Friday, March 1, 2019 at 12:32 a.m., residents at a home in the 9900 block of Cedar Avenue in Bloomington, called 9-1-1 and reported an unknown Hispanic male adult attempting to break into their home. The residents feared for their safety and fired two shots at the subject to protect themselves and their property. The subject was not hit and forced his way inside the residence into the attached garage. The residents fled their home and waited down the street for deputies to arrive.
When deputies arrived at the location, they discovered the front door of the residence open and heard yelling and items breaking in the garage area. Deputies made contact with the subject and attempted have the subject surrender peacefully. After a brief stand-off, the subject ran out of the house and dropped a rifle on the floor, that was discovered to be a pellet gun.
Ricart Gutierrez was taken into custody without further incident and booked at West Valley Detention Center for home invasion and residential burglary. The residents were not harmed but were awakened from their sleep and frightened as a result of the incident.
