Protect your personal property when shopping

Some reminders about how you can protect your personal property when shopping:

It can happen so quickly - you’re grocery shopping and have your open purse in the child seat of your shopping cart. You turn away to get something off a shelf and a thief uses that brief moment to reach into your purse and steal your wallet, or takes the entire purse. Please keep your purse secured when shopping – keep it closed and zipped and never leave it unattended.

Being proactive about protecting your property also extends to your car in the parking lot. Never leave anything valuable or visible in your car. Take your purse, wallet, backpack, and electronics with you or lock them in the trunk. Criminals cruise store parking lots to watch for people putting items in their trunk so place the items before you park the car. Always keep windows and sunroofs closed and doors locked, even for that brief stop, and always take your keys with you. Be aware of your surroundings when leaving your vehicle. If you see a suspicious person or activity, find another spot to park and call the police. You can assist us and may help prevent another person from becoming a victim of a car break-in.

Please don’t hesitate to call our dispatch center at 415-927-5150 or 9-1-1 for emergency.
