Flood Warning until 07:12PM Wednesday

Russian River near Hopland affecting Mendocino County Navarro River at Navarro affecting Mendocino County Eel River at Fernbridge affecting Humboldt County Periods of moderate to heavy rain is expected today, heaviest in Mendocino County. This will result in rapid rises on many main stem rivers. Rain will decrease in intensity later tonight with only light showers expected on Wednesday. The Flood Warning continues for The Russian River near Hopland.

* until Wednesday evening...or until the warning is cancelled.

* At 2:00 PM Tuesday, the stage was 19.2 feet.

* Moderate flooding is forecast.

* Flood stage is 21.0 feet.

* FORECAST...This river is expected to rise above flood stage of 21.0 FT this evening then forecast to crest near 25.0 FT early Wednesday morning. The river is then forecast to fall below flood stage of 21.0 FT Wednesday morning then forecast to fall below monitor stage of 18.0 FT late Wednesday morning. The river will further recede to near 6.0 FT Saturday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...At 25.0 feet, Severe bank erosion is likely with widespread flooding of farm land, buildings, and low-lying homes in the Hopland, Ukiah, and Talmage areas. Many secondary roads will be flooded. This level of flooding caused 6100 acres to flood in February 1940.

* AFFECTED AREAS: MENDOCINO, CA

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... SAFETY MESSAGE... Do not drive your car across flooded roadways. It only takes about two feet of water to float most vehicles. For area road conditions, call Caltrans at 1-800-427-7623. Stay tuned to developments by listening to NOAA Weather Radio or your local TV or radio stations. The next statement will be issued by 10 pm tonight or as warranted by changing conditions.
