Full-Time Position – 40 hours per week
Starting Salary Range: Grade 8 $18.00/hour

Basic Job Description:

Performs specialized work receiving and dispatching calls in an emergency communications center. Answers emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire, medical and other emergency services using a multi-line telephone and 911 system. Employees are responsible for fast, efficient and accurate receiving, prioritizing and dispatching of calls to police, fire, medical and other emergency personnel using a complex radio and CAD system. Principal duties are performed in a general office environment, often under stressful conditions.

Job Responsibilities
Answers all incoming phone lines, both non-emergency and emergency.
Interacts with individuals who are often times in need of assistance and may be distraught, hostile or impaired.
Interviews all callers to determine the nature of the call, the location of the incident, and other related call information. Maintains contact with callers during evolving situations to offer pre-arrival and support instructions.
Dispatches appropriate response vehicles (patrol, fire, EMS, etc.)
Maintains accurate log of calls, activities, reports, requests, and related information in the appropriate programs used.
Monitors a number of radio channels from field units to track availability and location, and monitor for safety.
Performs data entry and retrieval while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance to Bannock County and Sheriff’s Office policies, procedures and safety practices.

Competency Requirements

Must have the knowledge or ability to learn the following:
Telephone call-handling techniques
Radio transmission procedures
Knowledge of Bannock County geography, ability to operate computerized mapping systems.
Operation of computer and job-related software



Ability to: Follow written and oral instructions
Type with speed and accuracy
Operate radio equipment in a fast and efficient manner, including stressful situations
Exercise good judgement in the handling of multiple calls without direct supervision
Listen and retain information, communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
Operate standard office equipment
Prepare accurate and grammatically correct written reports
Respond to citizen requests in a courteous and professional manner
Perform multiple tasks simultaneously with accuracy and speed
Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks
Perform other related duties as assigned
Work non-traditional hours. Dispatched is staffed 24 hours a day and must be available to work weekends, holidays and rotating shifts.
