Advisory

Flash Flood Watch SHERIFF VICTOR HILL

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Clayton County.
  • The heavy rain/flash flood threat could be enhanced especially along the I-85 corridor including Atlanta Metro, where models are suggesting the heaviest rain axis sets up tonight/Thursday, which is also where some locations received more than 2 inches yesterday (Tuesday).

Impacts:
·  The potential for Flash Flooding increases, mainly later today through Thursday when the heaviest rainfall is expected. When rainfall accumulates quickly over saturated soils or where it overwhelms areas with poor drainage, extensive rises in water could occur.
·  Trees can down more easily with wind gusts from any storms given the saturated soils
·  Flooding of creeks or rivers is likely to expand or continue with the additional rainfall amounts.

Actions:
Stay alert to changes in the forecast given the prolonged nature of this setup.
·  Take time to clear debris from drainage areas, culverts and stormwater systems
·   Familiarize yourself with locations of local river observation equipment
·   Remove property from flood-prone/low-lying areas
