Phone Scam Alert:

Chief Roman McKeon and the Perth Amboy Police Department would like to advise the city residents of reported phone scams that are currently occurring.  Residents have reported receiving calls from a 1-800 number claiming that that there is a hold on the individual’s Social Security number due to fraudulent activity.  Please be assured that at no time will the Social Security Administration contact anyone by phone to request information.  Also, they will not contact anyone by phone requesting payments to be made by using prepaid cards.  If you receive any calls of this nature, you should not provide your Social Security number or banking information.  Other similar scams that are occurring include the IRS, PSE&G and other utility companies calling and asking for payments over the phone.  Again, these agencies do not accept payments over the phone and are fraud.  If you feel that you have been a victim of Social Security fraud, please contact the Office of the Inspector General at 800-269-0271.  To report any other fraud, contact the police department at 732-442-4400.
 
 
Alerta de Estafa Telefónica

El Jefe de Policía Roman McKeon y el Departamento de la Policía de Perth Amboy quisiera avisar a los residentes de la ciudad de unas estafas telefónicas que están ocurriendo.  Los residentes han reportado recibir llamadas de un número del 1-800 alegando que hay una retención en su número de seguro social debido a una actividad fraudulenta.  Estén seguros que en ningún momento la administración del seguro social se pondrá en contacto con usted por teléfono para solicitar información.  Además, no se pondrán en contacto con usted por teléfono solicitando pagos con tarjetas prepagadas.  Si reciben llamadas similares, no deben proporcionar su número de seguro social o información bancaria.  Otras estafas que estan occuriendo incluyen el IRS, PSE&G y otras compañías de servicios públicos que llaman y piden pagos por teléfono.  De nuevo, estas agencias no aceptan pagos por teléfono y son fraudulentos.  Si usted sospecha que ha sido víctima de fraude del seguro social, comuníquese con la oficina del inspector general al 800-269-0271.  Para reportar otros fraudes, llamen al Departamento de la Policía al 732-442-4400.
