Suspect arrested for the robbery of a local cab driver

On the morning of February 6th the Fairfield Police Department was contacted by a Fairfield Taxi dispatcher reporting that one of her driver’s had just been robbed.  Officers responded to the driver’s location in the 100 block of Hawthorn Dr.  They learned that the driver had been robbed and physically assaulted by a patron that he had been providing transportation to.  The victim, a 59-year old Fairfield resident, sustained non-life threatening injuries to his head as a result of the attack.  He described the suspect as an African American male in his 20’s, 5’10” and 170 lbs.  The suspect was last seen running through the apartment complex in the 100 block of Hawthorn Dr.

Officers were able to retrace the route that the taxi cab drove with the suspect, as well as the stops that the driver made.  Video surveillance footage was reviewed and officers were able to tentatively identify the suspect as Dionte Smallwood, a 31-year old Fairfield resident.  Detectives took over the investigation and contacted witnesses who were able to confirm the identity of the suspect.

This afternoon, officers in the area of N. Texas St and E. Tabor Av located Smallwood walking in the area and took him into custody.  He was later booked into Solano County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and an outstanding warrant.
