Suspect arrested for February 9th shooting
On February 9th at 8:30 pm officers responded to a shooting in the 1300 block of W. Texas St. The victim, a 19-year old Stockton resident, had sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. During the investigation it was determined that the suspect had approached the victim, brandished a firearm, and demanded he hand over his jewelry. A short struggle ensued during which time the victim was shot once. The suspect fled in a vehicle prior to officers arriving on scene.
Fairfield Police detectives took over the investigation and obtained surveillance videos from surrounding businesses. Using the videos, they were able to identify the suspect as Chestzley Couvson, an 18-year old Fairfield resident. Couvson was known to the victim and this does not appear to be a random event.
On February 13th at approximately 4:30 pm officers located Couvson driving in the area of Villa Circle and E. Tabor Ave. A traffic enforcement stop was conducted and Couvson along with two other passengers were detained. Officers determined that the front passenger, Ernest Sanders, was in possession of a loaded and concealed firearm at the time of the traffic stop. Sanders, an 18-year old Fairfield resident, was later booked into Solano County Jail for several weapons violations including possession of a concealed firearm.
Chestzley Couvson was booked into Solano County Jail for several weapons violations as well as assault with a deadly weapon and robbery. The third subject in the vehicle was questioned and released when it was determined that he had had no involvement in the earlier events.
