Fish Fire Impact Area Storm Reminder; Duarte on Yellow Alert Level February 14 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Dear Duarte Community;

The National Weather Service is predicting that the upcoming winter storm system passing through the City of Duarte through the evening of Thursday, February 14th will hit the community the hardest between the hours of 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on the 14th.  In anticipation of the downpour, the City of Duarte is on the Yellow Alert Level effective  today, Thursday, February 14th starting at 9:00 am through 5:00 pm.   Rainfall levels will range from 0.3 to 0.5 per hour and bring approximately 2’ to 3’ inches of total rainfall to the community during the 24-hour period.  No street closures or evacuations are anticipated at this time and Burrtec Waste Industries will be servicing the Fish Fire Impact Area per normal schedule on Friday, February 15, 2019. However, Duarte Transit will not be in service north of Royal Oaks Drive between Greenbank and Encanto Parkway on Thursday, February 14, 2019 during the Yellow Alert Level period.

The City of Duarte always encourages residents in the Fish Fire Impact area to prepare BEFORE the storm. Before and during the storm, residents are asked to contact either Duarte City Hall at 626 357-7931 or Duarte Public Safety at 626-357-7938 during regular business hours from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. 

Unfilled sandbags and sand are also available at the Los Angeles County Fire Station Department 44, located at 1105 Highland Avenue in the rear area 24/7. 

During the Yellow Level residents are advised to plan ahead and follow the below protocols:
  • Intermittent street closures may occur to facilitate clean up and equipment mobilization.
  • Affected Residents, will need to move vehicles outside of the impact area.
  • Rain-related parking restrictions in effect.
  • Residents directed to remove vehicles, trash bins, and other obstructions from streets and/or travel lanes, as they will be subject to tow or removal by authorities.  
In the event of minor debris, the City’s Public Works Department will work to clear the streets to facilitate local access and emergency vehicles. A more in depth clean up, facilitated by the City’s contractor Sully Miller, consisting of broomingand street sweeping would continue afterwards.
