Pedestrian Safety Operation results

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety, the Central Marin Police Traffic Team conducted a pedestrian safety enforcement operation last week on Thursday, February 7th. During an eight-hour period officers focused on six different crosswalk locations in our communities (see list below). These spots were selected in response to citizen complaints and by a review of collision and citation data. A police employee acted as a pedestrian decoy, crossing the street in marked crosswalks. A total of 30 citations were issued.

CMPA’s goal is to make our streets safe for everyone– both drivers and pedestrians. When driving, expect and scan ahead for pedestrians. Come to a complete stop at stop signs and always yield to pedestrians when making a turn at an intersection. Pedestrians should always look left, right, and left again before leaving the curb. Make eye contact with approaching drivers and watch for turning vehicles. Make sure the driver sees you and is stopped.

Pedestrian safety is everyone’s responsibility – drive with care and walk aware.
