Winter weather expected later tonight into tomorrow. Take a moment to make sure you are prepared.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for Morris County as we expect a winter storm to arrive later tonight. As this storm carries the potential for snow, sleet, high winds, and freezing rain, all residents are urged to make sure you are prepared. Initial estimates suggest that Morristown could receive 4-6 inches of snow so we have provided some common sense winter storm safety tips to keep everyone safe.
Preparation tips include making sure you have a emergency kit and enough supplies to last a few days in the event of a power outage. Make sure you are up to date with important medications, have batteries for flashlights, and have what you need to keep your pets safe and happy.
Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle which includes some warm clothes, jumper cables, flashlight, and blankets and make sure you fill your gas tank before the storm arrives. During any winter weather, residents are urged to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary. This keeps you safe, allows emergency officials to get to those in need, and helps the Department of Public Works plow the road.
If you use a generator during a power outage, remember to NEVER operate it within a confined space and to keep it away from windows, doors, or intakes.
Finally, check on your neighbors and let us know if anyone needs assistance.
