Advisory

High Wind Warning until 07:00PM Monday

A fast-moving and vigorous Pacific disturbance has moved inland and will be sweeping eastward over New Mexico and Colorado early Monday. Stout winds aloft and an associated surface low will accompany this disturbance, leading to strong to potentially damaging winds over portions of the central and eastern New Mexico. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a High Wind Warning, which is in effect from 9 AM to 7 PM MST Monday. The High Wind Watch is no longer in effect.

* LOCATION...Portions of the central mountain chain and adjacent highlands of New Mexico, as well as the east central high plains.

* WINDS...Sustained west northwest winds at 35 to 45 mph with occasional gusts of 55 to 60 mph.

* TIMING...Winds will be quickly strengthening Monday morning, and peaking in the early to mid afternoon. Wind speeds are expected to subside in the early evening as the sun sets.

* VISIBILITY...Areas of blowing dust will be capable of reducing visibility to less than 3 miles in some locations. Areas downwind of recently plowed fields and ongoing construction sites will be especially vulnerable.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Strong cross winds will create dangerous driving conditions along southwest to northeast oriented roads. High profile vehicles will be especially vulnerable. Occasional wind gusts to 60 mph could cause damage to trees, utility poles, and weaker structures.

* AFFECTED AREAS: SOUTHWEST CHAVES COUNTY ... SANDIA/MANZANO MOUNTAINS ... SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS ... GUADALUPE COUNTY ... SOUTH CENTRAL HIGHLANDS ... EASTERN LINCOLN COUNTY ... QUAY COUNTY ... CENTRAL HIGHLANDS ... CURRY COUNTY

Instructions:

Remember, A High Wind Warning means damaging winds are imminent or highly likely. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
