When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 01-29-19 at 2:30 p.m., a male subject stole items from the Victoria’s Secret store and subsequently had his female friend try to return the items without a receipt for credit. The subjects, both 49-year old El Granada residents, were arrested for conspiracy. In addition, the male suspect was arrested for being in possession of methamphetamine.

On Thursday, 01-31-19 at 5:21 a.m., Officer Shoopman and Officer Martin were dispatched to a business on the 6200 block of Mission Street on a report of a front glass break alarm. When the officers arrived, they saw a subject wearing a heavy jacket, black knit cap, blue jeans, backpack and holding a pry bar. Officer Shoopman noticed the front glass door was shattered. The officer said the subject dropped the bar through the door and began waving at the officer to come towards him. The subject stated the alarm was going off and he thought someone was in the business. After a brief investigation, the officers arrested the subject, a 62-year old San Francisco resident, for attempted burglary, vandalism, possession of burglary tools, and for a parole violation.

On Thursday afternoon, 01-31-19, officers were dispatched to the police station on a report of a fight that occurred a week prior at Benjamin Franklin Middle School. The fight involved the reporting party’s 12-year old son and another student. The reporting party also reported a robbery that occurred two days prior at Westlake Shopping center where her son was punched by the same student that he had gotten into a fight with the week prior. The victim initially told his sister about the robbery, and he told her not to tell their mother. The officers learned the robbery occurred somewhere near Jefferson High School. The victim told the officers he was playing basketball at Mission Dolores Park and took BART back to Daly City. He said as he was walking southbound on Mission Street near Westlake Avenue at 8:00 p.m., he was approached from behind by a subject who asked him if he fought his cousin. The subject was accompanied by five other subjects who all turned the other way and walked northbound on Mission Street. The victim said when he got to West Moltke Avenue, he was approached by the same group of subjects. The victim said two subjects grabbed him from behind, while another suspect pushed and tackled him from the front. The victim said he tried to wrestle with one of the subjects, but the rest of the subjects were also grabbing him and kicking him. One of the subjects took the victim’s backpack that contained miscellaneous school items, Apple Air Pods, headphones and a school shirt. The victim sustained a scrape on his elbow and back. The victim described the first suspect as a Filipino male, 14-years old, 5’6”, 150 lbs., average build, with short black hair wearing an unknown color hoodie and jeans. He described the second suspect as a Hispanic male, 14-15 years old “pretty tall”, wearing a black hoodie, black pants and had a black bicycle. The victim could only describe the other subjects as being an unknown race between 14-15 years old.

On Friday, 02-01-19 at approximately 10:10 p.m., a 39-year old Pacifica resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury after being involved in a collision with another vehicle. This occurred in the area of Skyline Drive and Westridge Drive.

On Saturday, 02-02-19 at 12:08 a.m., officers were dispatched to Carlito’s Club on Mission Street on a report of two subjects who refused to leave the premises. The officers located the two subjects and subsequently arrested one, a 21-year old San Francisco resident, for possession of a controlled substance for sale.

On Saturday, 02-02-19 at 2:21 pm., Officer Haas was dispatched to the parking lot at Dick’s Sporting Goods on a report of a person who brandished another with a deadly weapon. The reporting party/victim, a 31-year old San Francisco resident, said he was in the parking lot waiting for a parking stall to open and pulled into the spot when it was vacated. He said as he was putting the car into park, a male approached his window and yelled at him for taking his parking spot. The victim said he looked at his rear mirror and said the man walked back to his vehicle and was swinging a chain with a solid object on the end of it. The victim was scared for his life and backed out of the parking spot. Before he left the area, the victim took a photo of the suspect’s vehicle and watched the subject walk with a woman into the sporting goods store. Officer Haas subsequently arrested the subject, a 49-year old San Francisco resident, for brandishing.

On Saturday, 02-02-19 at 3:10 p.m., a 43-year old transient took a skateboard from the Zumiez store at the Serramonte Shopping Center. The store clerk managed to get the skateboard back and did not wish to seek prosecution. When Officer Haas contacted the subject, he found the subject had burglary tools (pliers) and methamphetamine in his possession. He was arrested for those charges and permanently banned from going to the store.

On Saturday, 02-02-19 at 11:35 p.m., Officer Covarrubias, Sergeant Moala and Officer Collins were dispatched to the Walgreen’s store at Westlake Shopping Center on a report of a suspicious person inside the store. The reporting party said the subject put a large volume of items in the cart and was arguing with employees. Officer Collins advised the subject the employees wanted him to leave the store. When the subject reached into his pocket to give the officer his identification, a baggie containing methamphetamine dropped onto the ground. Officer Collins subsequently arrested the suspect, a 50-year old San Francisco resident, for attempted burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of unlawful paraphernalia, receiving stolen property (he had a store employee’s cell phone in his possession) and for petty theft.

On Sunday, 02-03-19 at 9:18 a.m., Officer Herrera was dispatched to the Enterprise Rental Car lot on Geneva Avenue on a report of a possible vehicle theft in progress. The security guard saw two subjects inside of a 2018 Nissan Armada. Officer Serbin arrived to assist, and they found two subjects, both 19-year old Daly City residents on scene. One of the subjects was arrested attempted vehicle theft and conspiracy to commit a crime.

On Sunday, 02-03-19 at approximately 1:50 p.m., Officer Serbin was dispatched to the area of Bellevue Avenue and Templeton Avenue on a report of subject sleeping in his vehicle. Officer Serbin contacted the subject who was in the driver’s seat with the keys in his lap. The officer immediately noticed that the subject appeared to be intoxicated. The subject, a 25-year old San Francisco resident, said his friend had driven him there, and another friend was coming to move the vehicle. The subject was able to contact a friend to move the vehicle. Officer Serbin watched the subject’s friend drive the car down Acton Street. A short time later, Officer Serbin saw the same subject he contacted driving the vehicle in the area of San Jose Avenue and Rice Street. The officer stopped the vehicle and administered field sobriety tests. After the subject failed the tests, he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.


Robberies

There were two robberies during the past week.

On Tuesday, 01-29-19 between 1:15 a.m. and 1:20 a.m., a 50-year old Daly City resident was the victim of robbery and burglary. This occurred on the 100 block of Winchester Street. The victim said he was asleep when he awoken by a loud “bang”. The victim said he armed himself with a contractor’s level and went to his driveway to investigate. The victim said he saw a subject walking away with two of his work lights in his hands from his vehicle. The victim said he confronted the suspect, and he said the suspect walked back to him in an “aggressive” manner and got to within two or three feet of him. The victim said he was able to swing the level he was holding to create distance between the two of them. The victim said he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the suspect, and he feared that the suspect would hit him with the lights if he tried to get in his way. The victim said he returned to his residence and grabbed his car keys so he could canvass the area to find the suspect. About 20 minutes later, the victim said he saw the suspect at Sickles Avenue and Mission Street, and he called the San Francisco Police Department. The suspect got into a minivan before the police arrived. The victim described the suspect as a Hispanic male between 30-35 years old, 5’8”, medium build, wearing a gray windbreaker with a hoodie, black beanie and black pants.

On Tuesday, 01-29-19 at approximately 8:00 p.m., a 12-year old Daly City resident was robbed of his backpack by six juveniles as he was walking on Mission Street near West Moltke Avenue. See “Notable Reports” for more information.


Residential Burglaries

There was one residential burglary during the past week.

On Friday, 02-01-19 between 3:07 p.m. and 4:16 p.m., a residence on the 100 block of Northgate Avenue was burglarized by an unknown suspect(s) who broke the rear window of the kitchen to enter the residence. The burglar(s) ransacked the rooms of the house and took jewelry, cash, pillow cases and a purse. This investigation is continuing.


Commercial Burglaries

There were two commercial burglaries and two attempted commercial burglaries during the past week.

On Wednesday, 01-30-19 at approximately 6:03 p.m., two unknown subjects walked into the T-Mobile Store on Gellert Boulevard and stole an Apple XS Max cell phone. The reporting party said a subject he described as an unknown black male, 30’s, about 5’8”, stocky build, wearing a brown t-shirt and blue jeans walked into the store and asked him questions. When the reporting party looked way, he heard a sound of a phone being pulled from the cord anchored to the display counter. The reporting party said the suspect then took the phone and walked out of the store. The reporting party was able to push the suspect to the ground, and the suspect dropped the phone. The suspect told the reporting party to just let him go. The victim saw the suspect’s friend, described as an unknown black male, 30’s, 6’3”, stocky build, approach them, and the victim released the suspect. The first suspect then grabbed the phone, and they both fled in an older white 4-door sedan.

On Sunday, 02-03-19 at approximately 8:45 p.m., a subject stole $300 worth of merchandise from the Dollar Tree Store on Geneva Avenue. This investigation is continuing.

On Thursday, 01-31-19 at 5:21 a.m., a 62-year old San Francisco resident was arrested for attempted burglary, vandalism, possession of burglary tools and a parole violation after attempting to break into a business on the 6200 block of Mission Street. See “Notable Reports” for more information.

Vehicle Burglaries

There were 10 vehicle burglaries and four attempted vehicle burglaries during the past week. In many of these cases, the victims left their property in plain view. This entices potential burglars immensely.

• Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot #A4—a bag containing protein drinks was taken from the front seat of a 2016 Toyota 4-Runner. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 01-29-19 at 8:10 a.m.
• Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot near Crunch Fitness—a backpack containing a HP laptop, eyeglasses, binder, notebook, day planner and text book was taken from the front passenger seat of a 2009 Nissan Sentra. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 01-29-19 between 5:20 p.m. and 7:40 p.m.
• Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot near Subway—a backpack containing a book, air pods and a student I.D. was taken from a 2012 Honda Civic. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on 01-29-19 between 8:00 p.m. and 9:02 p.m.
• Koi Palace parking lot—a backpack containing a laptop and a GoPro camera was taken from a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on 01-30-19 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:05 p.m.
• Outback Restaurant parking lot—a backpack containing tools, work I.D., and Kevlar sleeves was taken from a 2013 Tesla Model S. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on 01-30-19 between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
• 24 Hour Fitness parking lot—an iPad was taken from a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on 01-30-19 between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
• Celia’s Restaurant parking lot—a backpack containing Gucci sunglasses and a Google Chromebook was taken from a 2002 Nissan Sentra. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 01-30-19 between 7:52 p.m. and 8:19 p.m.
• 500 block of Alexis Circle—a Dooney & Burke wristlet containing a Kate Spade bracelet and $20 was taken from a 2017 Toyota Sienna. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred between 6:30 p.m. on 02-01-19 and 9:15 a.m. on 02-02-19.
• Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot near Buffalo Wild Wings—two backpacks were taken from the rear seat of a 2015 Nissan Altima. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 02-03-19 between 2:50 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.
• Westlake Center parking garage (4th floor) on Lake Merced Boulevard—a NorthFace backpack containing an Apple MacBook Pro, Nintendo video game console, three Nintendo Switch games, and a jump starter was taken from a 2018 Acura RDX. The left front window and left rear window were smashed. Occurred on 02-03-19 between 8:30 p.m. and 9:13 p.m.
• 200 block of 90th Street—an attempt only to a 2017 Toyota Prius. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on 01-30-19 between 5:30 p.m. and 5:50 p.m.
• 200 block of 90th Street—an attempt only to a 2019 Ford Fusion. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on 01-30-19 between 5:30 p.m. and 5:50 p.m.
• Koi Palace parking lot—an attempt only to an unknown year Nissan Rogue. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on 01-30-19 at 7:55 p.m.
• 300 block of Rio Verde Street—an attempt only to a 2006 GMC Yukon. The driver’s door lock was pried. Occurred on 02-03-19 between 12:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

Stolen Vehicles

There were four stolen vehicles and one attempted stolen vehicle during the past week. One was recovered.

• 800 block of Schwerin Street—a 2000 BMW 540. Occurred between 7:00 p.m. on 01-28-19 and 8:00 a.m. on 01-29-19.
• Castle Street/1st Avenue—a 1994 Honda Civic. Occurred between 7:00 p.m. on 01-29-19 and 9:00 a.m. on 01-30-19. **Recovered in Daly City on 01-31-19.
• Unit block of Fieldcrest Avenue—a 2006 Toyota RAV4. Occurred on 02-01-19 at 3:15 a.m. The victim left her car running while she ran back into her house to get her things.
• King Drive near Hyde Court—a 1995 Honda Accord. Occurred between 2:00 p.m. on 02-02-19 and 2:00 p.m. on 02-04-19.
• Enterprise Rental Car lot on Geneva Avenue—an attempt only of a 2018 Nissan Armada. Occurred on 02-03-19 at 9:18 a.m.


Miscellaneous

• There were 9 domestic disturbance cases reported
• There were 2 shoplifting incidents reported
• There were 10 cases involving an involuntary psychiatric hold
• There were 7 vandalism cases reported
• There were 2 hit and run collisions reported
• Our Police Assistants put “boots” on 10 vehicles


Scams/Other

PayPal Scam

On Tuesday, 02-05-19, a 50-year old Daly City resident reported he was the victim of a fraud. The victim said the past Saturday he was trying to make a purchase on his eBay account and was unable to pay through his PayPal account. The victim said he called eBay after he tried unsuccessfully to pay three times. The victim said eBay directed him to call PayPal. The victim said he conducted a Google search to locate a phone number for PayPal. The victim said he called the number, and the woman who answered said three different people in the U.S., Philippines and China were hacking into his PayPal account. The victim said the call was transferred to a male subject who told him in order to repair his account, he would need to purchase a Google Play card for $100. The victim purchased the card and gave the numbers on the back of the card to the suspect. The suspect then told the victim that the card was not working and asked him to purchase a $500 Google Play card. The victim did so, and once again the suspect said the card was not good. The victim then purchased a $1,000 Google Play card, and the suspect again said the card was not good. The suspect assured the victim that all of the money he was spending on the Google Play cards would be returned to him. This went on for several more instances until the victim had purchased a total of $7,100 over a two-day period. It stopped when representatives from the Wells Fargo Bank interceded and called the victim regarding these purchases.

Claim your Free Tree!
