DUI Uber Driver Collides with Light Pole

On Thursday evening, at about 5:30, officers responded to a radio call of a collision in the 1900 block of Hidden Ranch Drive. When the officers arrived, they discovered that a vehicle had collided with a light pole, knocking it over. While speaking with the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, the officers noted signs of alcohol intoxication. A subsequent investigation revealed that the driver, 59 year-old Michael Wiebelhauf of Simi Valley, was driving while impaired by alcohol. A subsequent chemical test revealed that Wiebelhauf's BAC was .30%, nearly four times the legal limit.

Further investigation revealed that Wiebelhauf is a driver for the ride share service, Uber. He dropped off his last fare less than a half an hour before crashing his car into the light pole. It is likely that he was driving impaired while transporting passengers.

The Simi Valley Police Department would like to remind those who utilize cars for hire to be aware of your driver's actions. If the driver seems impaired or if they do not appear to be fit to drive safely, you do not have to take that ride.
