NARRATIVE:
Pomona Police Officers responded to a man on the Dudley St. overpass at the 10 FWY. The man appeared to be under the influence of drugs and suffering from a mental health crisis. He was threatening to jump off the overpass, which is approximately 40 feet above the 10 FWY. For over two hours Pomona Police Crisis Negotiators were able to keep the man relatively calm, even providing him a cigarette at his request. When negotiations stalled, it was through the combined resources and coordinated efforts of the Pomona Police Department, California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, that the man was rescued from the ledge and detained. Neither the man-in-crisis nor any first responders were injured during this incident. The subject will receive assistance from a mental health specialist.
