Advisory

A Travel Watch has been issued for Grant County based on the Sub-Zero Temps/Windchill. See msg for addl. info.

A Travel Watch has been issued for Grant County. The definition of a watch is as follows:

Means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a "watch" local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.

This Travel Watch is issued not based on actual road conditions but on the forecasted temperature and forecasted wind chill temperature. Actual road conditions are still slick in spots and some blowing and drifting is occurring but travel throughout the county, if taken slowly, is still manageable.

Forecast calls for negative temps and windchill temperatures from -30 to -45 on Wednesday morning and windchill temperatures Thursday morning around -25 to -30. These conditions are "threatening to the safety of the public". Emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations. Travel should be essential only to and from work or in emergency situations. The business or agency makes the determination to remain open or close based on their policy.

Temperatures are expected to return to just normal cold temperatures Friday and by Sunday/Monday they will be well above freezing.

If you must travel, have an emergency supplies kit that contains extra warm clothing and blankets.

Stay warm and be safe. Lookout for your neighbors and those with additional special needs. Bring your pets indoors. See the Grant County Indiana Emergency Management Facebook page for additional safety tips.
