Aviation 40King6 & AirRescue307 locate and perform hoist rescue of an injured hiker who had fallen down an ice chute

SUMMARY:
On Saturday, January 27, 2019, at approximately 8:00 am, the crew of Sheriff’s Helicopter 40King6 was requested by San Bernardino County Fire to assist in the Search/Rescue of a 35 y/o female who had fallen down an ice chute while hiking in the area of San Bernardino Peak. The reporting party provided the Fire Department with a Lat/Long of the injured person.
40King6 responded to the area and located the injured person, who was laying under a tree with approximately 4-5 other subjects who were caring for her. Due to the remote area, the presence of snow/ice, and no road access; Air Rescue 307 was requested to perform a hoist of the victim.
AR307 responded to the scene and lowered 2 Air Medics who have been trained in ice rescue to the victim where they assessed her condition. It was determined that the victim would need to be flown to a trauma center for treatment of her non life-threatening injuries. After placing the victim into a “Stokes Basket”, the rescuers and victim were hoisted back into the helicopter. Once on board, the victim was flown to a local are hospital for treatment of her injuries.
