Sheriff Richard J Behnke reports on 01/25/2019 at approximately 2248 hundred hours, Deputies responded to an injury crash. The crash occurred at the intersection of M-60 Hwy and Calvin Center Rd., Penn Township, Cass County Michigan. The initial investigation showed Noe Romero Herrero, 58 year old Elkhart resident, was unable to stop on Calvin Center Rd due to icy road conditions. Herrero traveled through the intersection into traffic on M-60 crashing into Linda Nang Namanja, 40 year old South Bend resident. Herrero had Iris J Enamorado Palacios, 36 year old Elkhart resident and Ann Gladias, 29 year old Elkhart resident, in the vehicle during the crash. Herrero’s vehicle then collided into a road sign before entering a field. None of the occupants in the Herrero’s vehicle sustained any noticeable injuries and they all refused medical treatment. Namanja’s airbags were deployed during the crash and her vehicle continued into a field. Namanja was evaluated by Life Care Emergency Medical Personnel and was transported by Life Care Ambulance to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital. Seat belts were worn and alcohol/ drugs are not believed to be contributing factors. This incident remains under investigation. The Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by Life Care Ambulance and Penn Township Fire Department.
