UPDATED: Mid Rivers Mall Drive Closing for 40 Days at Railroad Crossing North of I-70 due to Construction

Beginning Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, after the morning rush hour, Mid Rivers Mall Drive is scheduled to close to traffic at the Norfolk-Southern railway crossing for an estimated 40 calendar days. The closure is needed so that Norfolk-Southern can reconstruct its railway crossing to accommodate lane and trail improvements as part of the City of St. Peters’ Mid Rivers Mall Drive Widening transportation project.

Once completed, the new railway crossing will be wide enough to accommodate two northbound and two southbound traffic lanes, as well as a 10-foot wide bike and pedestrian trail.

See the attachment for a detour plan during this closure. The detour will be necessary for: 1) northbound Mid Rivers Mall Drive traffic to reach Ecology Drive or Salt River Road; and 2) Salt River Road traffic to take southbound Mid Rivers Mall Drive to reach the I-70 interchange and southern portions of St. Peters.

The City of St. Peters’ Recycle City and Earth Centre facilities on Ecology Drive will be accessible during the railway closure by taking Salt River Road to southbound Mid Rivers Mall Drive.

The Mid Rivers Mall Drive Widening Project will improve safety and reduce congestion on Mid Rivers Mall Drive at I-70 north to Ecology Drive. Improvements already have been completed at the I-70 interchange, North Outer Road and Ecology Drive, plus a 10-foot wide trail was constructed from the interchange to Salt River Road. The entire project is expected to be completed this spring.
