Duarte Crime Blotter for the Week of 1-3-19 to 1-19-19

Dear Duarte Community;

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of 01-13-19 to 01-19-19

  
January 13, 2019
  • An Attempt Robbery was reported at 1318 Duarte Road (Cowboy Mex). At approximately 7:00 PM, an adult male entered the business, and with his hand concealed in his jacket pocket simulating he had a gun, demanded the money from the register.  When the manager stated she had already made a deposit at the bank, the suspect fled on foot towards the Gold Line Train Station. Upon arrival of responding deputies, the suspect was located and arrested without incident.  No weapon was found.
 
  • A Commercial Burglary was reported at 1418 Huntington Drive (J & A’s CafĂ©).  At approximately 3:30 AM, deputies responded to a burglary alarm and found the front glass door was shattered, and the register missing.  The location was cleared by deputies, but no suspects were found inside.  The register contained approximately $10.
 
  • A Grand Theft was reported at 2351 Central Avenue (Otis Gordon Sports Park).  While the victim was playing soccer, person’s unknown stole his wallet from his back pack which contained approximately $1,900.  An adult male was seen going through some of the players personal items, however, he was not approached nor was law enforcement contacted.  
 
  • An Attempt Vehicle Theft was reported at 1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart).  Sometime between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM, person’s unknown attempted to steal an employee’s vehicle from the parking lot.  The employee approached his vehicle at the end of his work day, and found the vehicle running.  He checked the interior and noticed damage to the steering column by the ignition. After further investigation, it was determined the vehicle registration card and the stereo had been stolen.  The investigation is on-going.    
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). An adult female was observed concealing a package of sheets and two DVD’s in her purse, then walking out without paying for the items.  The female was detained by store security without incident.  Upon further investigation by responding deputies, the female admitted to stealing the items, stating she was homeless and didn’t have much money.    
 
January 14, 2019
  •   No significant activity. 
 
January 15, 2019
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). While conducting an inventory check, an employee found some blue Ray DVD’s missing.  While reviewing video surveillance, Loss Prevention Officers saw that on January 11th, three male adults entered the store and placed numerous Blue Ray DVD’s into duffle bags, then left the store without paying for the items.  The suspects fled in a black 4-door Kia Sol.  Further investigation revealed the Walmart in Rosemead also had a similar theft involving the same suspect and vehicle description.  The investigation is on-going.   
 
January 16, 2019
  • No significant activity.
 
January 17, 2019
  • A Grand Theft Vehicle was reported at 1131 Central Avenue (Car Max). At approximately 9:30 am, deputies responded to a report of a vehicle theft.  Upon arrival, they located the suspect in the vehicle as he was leaving the parking lot onto Central Avenue.  Upon seeing the deputies, the suspect started to flee on foot, however, he stopped and surrendered when ordered.  The suspect was arrested without incident and the vehicle recovered undamaged.  
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). An adult female was observed by store security concealing over $200 in clothing items in a plastic bag, then walking out without paying.  The female was detained by store security without incident.  After further investigation by responding deputies, the female stated she had returned some items, and thought she could conceal the stolen items inside the same bag and no one would notice.            
  
January 18, 2019
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). An adult female was observed selecting various food items and an $87 tent.  Upon entering the self-check-out isle, she paid for several food items, but not the tent.  Once outside the store, she was detained by store security without incident.  After further investigation by responding deputies, the female admitted to stealing the tent, believing if she paid for some of the items no one would notice she didn’t pay for the tent.    
 
January 19, 2018
  • While patrolling the area of Buena Vista and Starhaven, a deputy observed an adult male riding a bicycle with one hand holding a half empty 40 ounce bottle of beer.  Upon contacting the male, it was determined he had an outstanding “No Bail” warrant for a parole violation and was arrested without incident.  Prior to entering the jail at Temple Station, the male told deputies he was in possession of Methamphetamine which was concealed in his sock.  The drugs were recovered prior to the male entering the jail, therefore, he was not charged with an additional felony of bringing narcotics into a jail facility.
