Advisory

Coastal Flood Advisory until 11:00AM Sunday

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory, which is in effect from 5 AM to 11 AM EST Sunday.

* LOCATIONS...Coastal areas of northern and central New Jersey.

* TIMING...Flooding will occur for a few hours around the time of high tide Sunday morning. High tide on the New Jersey oceanfront is between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM. High tide on the back bays and along Raritan Bay occurs later than the high tide on the oceanfront.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Up to one foot of saltwater inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Minor roadway flooding is possible for coastal locations in Monmouth County, Long Beach Island, Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant Beach, and other locations near Barnegat Bay. In Middlesex County, minor road flooding is possible in Woodbridge Township, Perth Amboy, Old Bridge Township, and South Amboy. Rainfall may exacerbate tidal levels, leading to more significant impacts.

* WAVES...Wave heights on the ocean waters off the coast are forecast to be 5 to 9 feet. Wave heights on Raritan Bay are forecast to be 2 to 5 feet.

* AFFECTED AREAS: MIDDLESEX ... EASTERN MONMOUTH ... COASTAL OCEAN ... WESTERN MONMOUTH ... OCEAN ... SOUTHEASTERN BURLINGTON

Instructions:

A Coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some road closures. Usually, the most vulnerable roadways will flood. Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to costly repairs. Visit the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service at water.weather.gov/ahps for additional water level and flood impact information for your local tide gauge.
