Winter Weather Advisory & Snow Street Reminder

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for our area from 1:00pm today until 1:00pm tomorrow (1/20). A mixture of snow, rain and ice along with gusty winds is predicted for the South River area. In addition, dangerously cold temperatures will follow on Sunday into Monday and Tuesday.

Residents are encouraged to review the following information and tips.

BEFORE THE WEATHER

• Once roads become snow covered, all vehicles must be removed from Snow Emergency Streets in South River. If this becomes necessary, an additional message will be posted. These streets are listed below.

• The icing conditions and winds will have the potential to bring down tree limbs and power lines. Be prepared for the possibility of power outages and loss of heat.

• Charge up electronic devices ahead of time and be sure to have a flashlight, portable radio and batteries.

DURING THE WEATHER

• Travelling may become difficult at times. Driving is discouraged. If you must drive, allow yourself additional travel time and keep extra space between your vehicle and others on the road and take the proper winter driving precautions. Remember to clear snow & ice from your vehicle before driving.

• Check on elderly neighbors and relatives. Especially in the event of a power outage or cold temperatures.

• Essential services will remain uninterrupted. Remember to dial 9-1-1 only in the event of an emergency. Non emergency calls should be directed to 732-238-1000.

AFTER THE WEATHER

• As per South River Borough ordinance, all sidewalks must be cleared of snow within 24 hours after the snowfall stops.

• Temperatures are expected to drop rapidly as the precipitation ends. Flash freezing conditions will occur and any remaining slush or water on roads, parking lots and sidewalks will quickly freeze. if possible, clear any slush or snow from walkways and vehicles before it freezes.
