UPDATE (1/18/19, 9:50 AM) - End of Incident Message - The Unified Command Agencies (Los Angeles County Fire, Sheriff’s, and Public Works Departments) announced their final update for the Woolsey Fire Winter Storm incident at 8:00 PM Thursday, Jan. 17.
All evacuation orders have been lifted and evacuation centers have been closed. Unified Command demobilized. The City has de-activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
Caltrans, County and City crews will continue to patrol roads and PCH in Malibu to monitor slopes, drainage and road conditions, and clear rocks and debris from the roads. Residents are urged to remain prepared for any unexpected hazards. Rockslides and land movement can occur without warning for several days after heavy rain, and can be very dangerous. On the roads, be aware of tree branches falling, rocks and mud in the roadway, and emergency and work vehicles and people.
Remaining road closures: Topanga Canyon between Grandview and PCH, Decker Canyon Rd between PCH and Upper Mulholland. Malibu Canyon between Piuma and Civic Center Way. Residents of the Malibu Knolls neighborhood with ID are allowed in at Civic Center Way.
SMMUSD schools in Malibu are open today. The District will notify parents directly and post on social media about any school closures.
A high surf advisory remains in effect at least through tonight (Jan. 18). For Malibu weather forecasts, advisories, current conditions, visit the National Weather Service LA/Oxnard at https://www.weather.gov/lox. A water quality advisory remains in effect, and LA County Public Health Dept. recommends not coming in contact with ocean water near discharging creeks or drainpipes for 72 hours after a significant rain due to bacteria and other contaminants in storm runoff.
