Advisory

Winter Storm Warning until 05:00PM Friday

A quick moving winter storm system will enter into the Four Corners late tonight, progressing southeastward across northern and north-central New Mexico Friday. Precipitation will first enter into the Four Corners region late Thursday evening with southwest flow enhancing snow accumulations atop the Chuska's, Northwest Highlands, western Jemez, and San Juan/Tusas Mountains. Snow accumulations will range from 4 to 9 inches with up to a foot atop the San Juan/Tusas Mountains through Friday morning. Snow will favor the west slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains Friday morning lasting into the afternoon hours. Snow will begin to taper off west to east Friday afternoon into Friday evening. Strong west winds associated with the frontal passage will also create blowing snow, lowering visibility mainly for areas above 9500 feet. Hazardous travel from snow packed and slick roads can be expected.

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 12 inches expected. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph producing blowing snow and reduced visibility.

* WHERE...San Juan Mountains.

* WHEN...From 8 PM this evening to 5 PM MST Friday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be very difficult along U.S. Highways 64 and 84 due to a combination of snow packed roadways and patchy blowing snow significantly reducing visibility.

* AFFECTED AREAS: SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS
