Resources to get you through the storm

The National Weather Service Bay Area has issued a Flash Flood Watch and High Wind Warning through 3am Thursday. Residents are encouraged to prepare for heavy rain, gusty winds and scattered thunderstorms.

The heavy rain and strong winds will result in extremely hazardous driving conditions during this evening’s commute hours. Remember:

  • If your windshield wipers are on, headlights should be on too
  • Slow down on wet roadways
  • Give other vehicles more space – leave yourself 2-3 extra seconds of following time to allow extra time to react to traffic
  • Avoid driving through standing water – just 12” of flood water can strand a vehicle
The rain and wind may cause localized flooding and downed trees or limbs. If you observe a downed tree or power line, please keep a safe distance and contact the City. To report flooding or other storm related hazards, please use the following contact information:
  • During regular business hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday), contact Maintenance Services at (650) 947-2785
  • After hours, and on weekends and holidays, call the Police Department’s 24/7 non-emergency line at (650) 947-2770
A free self-serve sandbag station is available to Los Altos residents at the Municipal Services Center located at 707 Fremont Avenue. Sand, shovels and bags will be available 24/7. Additional sandbag locations are available throughout the County and can be found at www.valleywater.org/sandbags.
