Tyler Phillips arrested after being caught inside someone else’s vehicle
At 9:22 PM on January 13, 2019, a citizen called Police Dispatch to report a vehicle prowler. Officers responded to the 2200-block of Woodwarth Circle and met with the victim who stated he had caught a suspect in his parked red Toyota pickup. The victim stated he chased the suspect to Hillcrest Drive before losing sight of the suspect.
Other officers in the area saw a yellow cab parked on Hillcrest Drive near Brooks Drive. There was a male in the back seat of the cab that matched the suspect’s description. Officers attempted to identify that male but he refused to correctly identify himself. Officers handcuffed the man and put him in the back seat of a patrol car. At that time the male gave his real name and admitted he had an outstanding warrant; however the male denied being inside anyone else’s vehicle. Officers conducted a “show up” with the victim who positively identified the male as being the same one who had been in his truck on Woodwarth Circle.
20-year-old Tyler J. Phillips was transported to the Anchorage Jail and remanded on his warrant. He was further charged with Vehicle Tampering, Criminal Mischief, and Violate Conditions of Release. During processing at the jail, DOC personnel found property in Phillips’ jacket that belonged to the vehicle owner on Woodwarth Circle.
