ONE INJURED IN HOWARD TOWNSHIP CRASH

Cass County Sheriff Richard J Behnke reports that on 1/15/2019 at approximately 2:16 P.M., his deputies responded to a two vehicle injury accident at the intersection of Detroit Rd and Juniper Rd in Howard Township. 49-year-old Bryan Tegethoff of Bloomingdale was driving a box truck for his employer. He intended to make a left turn onto Juniper Rd from Detroit Rd. This section of Detroit Rd has two eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes separated by a center median. Tegethoff made his turn from the right lane. As he did this, he cut across another eastbound lane and was struck in the driver's side of his truck by 51-year-old Lisa Sikkema of Lawrence.

Tegethoff was transported by SMACUS ambulance to South Bend Memorial Hospital for a laceration to his head. Sikkema was uninjured and was released at the scene. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this crash. The Howard Township Fire Department and Michigan State Police assisted the Sheriff's Office at the scene.
