Storm in Chula Vista closes ball fields and some parks. Sandbags available for residents.

Rain is predicted to be heavier this afternoon and the City of Chula Vista is planning accordingly. All sports ball fields are closed and will probably be closed for several days. Please visit http://www.chulavistaca.gov/departments/recreation/about-us/sports-athletics for the latest updates on field status. In addition, Hilltop Park is closed and other parks are being evaluated.

Chula Vista residents may obtain up to 10 free sandbags at the Public Works Center located at 1800 Maxwell Road. Sandbags will be available until 9 p.m. tonight. Proof of residency is required.

Sandbags also will be available at Fire Station 1, 447 F Street between 2 and 6 p.m. today only.

As a reminder to all drivers, if your wipers are on, your headlights must be on. And please do not attempt to drive through flooded areas.
