...TREACHEROUS ICING CONDITIONS WILL DEVELOP QUICKLY THIS EVENING
ACROSS MUCH OF THE NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS...
Heavier precipitation rates are starting to spread northeast
across western North Carolina early this evening, and this is
occurring just as temperatures begin to lock in at or below the
freezing mark in many areas. Sleet will transition to freezing
rain quickly in many North Carolina mountain and foothill
locations and travel conditions will likely deteriorate rapidly.
Conditions will then worsen through the late evening hours and
overnight as freezing rain continues to accumulate on trees,
limbs, and power lines.
Roads, and especially bridges, will ice up very quickly this
evening - making walking or driving hazardous. Travel across the
Winter Storm Warning, and nearby Advisory areas, should be
completed or postponed immediately.
