*UPDATE*
Paul Michael Wrenn, age 31, was taken into custody by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office on January 10, 2019. Wrenn has been charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer Causing Physical Injury (class I felony) and Resisting a Public Officer (misdemeanor). Wrenn also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Failure to Appear on previous charges from 2018, which he was also served.
 
Wrenn’s bond is currently set at $30,500, secured, for all charges.
                                                                                                                 
On 1-9-2018 at approximately 6:49pm a deputy with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of Sarah Lee Road and Piney Knob Road.  The vehicle was occupied several times.

The deputy checked warrants on the occupants of the vehicle and one of the passengers, Paul Michael Wrenn, 31 year old white male, had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.

Wrenn attempted to avoid arrest by fleeing on foot.  The deputy was able to catch up to Wrenn who began to fight with the deputy.  During the fight Wrenn hit the deputy in the head with a blunt object.  The deputy was able to get to his service weapon and shoot Wrenn.
Other officers arrived on scene to assist.

The deputy and Wrenn were transported to Rutherford Regional Hospital, where they received treatment.

After being released from the hospital, Wrenn was taken to Rutherford County Detention Center.

The State Bureau of Investigation was contacted to investigate the officer involved shooting.
