SMPD Arrests Four Juveniles for Auto Burglary 
 
Auto burglars arrested after one San Mateo resident alerts police to suspicious behavior.
 
On Thursday, January 3, 2019, at 8:42 p.m., San Mateo Police Dispatch received a 911 call from a citizen observing a crime in progress near Hurlingham Ave / West Bellevue Ave. The witness told police he saw multiple juvenile males walking into his neighborhood, wearing dark clothing, carrying flashlights, and looking into every vehicle they walked by. The caller’s neighborhood was all residential and wasn’t typically used as a thoroughfare, which raised a concern about juveniles burglarizing cars.
 
San Mateo police officers are constantly on alert to property crimes and were dispatched to the area immediately. Within a few minutes, several officers descended into the neighborhood and began searching for the juveniles described by the caller. Many of the juveniles were located walking together near Clark Dr / Hurlingham Ave and another male was stopped while fleeing near Hurlingham Ave / Bellevue Ave.  
 
Officers found a burglarized car near Clark Dr / Hurlingham Ave that had its window shattered and sunglasses stolen. The juveniles were searched and one was in possession of the stolen sunglasses. Although, the owner was happy to get their property back, cleaning up the mess left behind by the juveniles was not something they looked forward to.
 
The juveniles were transported to the San Mateo Police Department. Following their processing, three juveniles were released to their parents and one was booked at Hillcrest Juvenile Hall.
 
Working in partnership with our active neighborhood watch groups, social media platforms like Nextdoor.com, and surveillance technology, the San Mateo Police Department is capturing more criminals and making San Mateo an unfriendly place for thieves. We are asking for our community’s help to protect themselves by not leaving any valuables in plain view, locking their doors, and reporting suspicious activity.
 
  
ARRESTED:
15-year-old juvenile male - San Mateo resident was arrested for second degree burglary (460(b) PC) and conspiracy to commit crime (182(a)1 PC). He was processed and released to his parents at the San Mateo Police Department.
 
15-year old juvenile male – San Mateo resident was arrested for possession of stolen property (496(a) PC), second degree burglary (460(b) PC), and conspiracy to commit crime (182(a)1 PC). He was processed and released to his parents at the San Mateo Police Department.
 
14-year old juvenile male – San Mateo resident was arrested for juvenile probation violation (777 WI), second degree burglary (460(b) PC), and conspiracy to commit crime (182(a)1 PC). His parents were unavailable and he was booked at Hillcrest Juvenile Hall.
 
13-year old juvenile male – San Mateo resident was arrested for second degree burglary (460(b) PC) and conspiracy to commit crime (182(a)1 PC). He was processed and released to his parents at the San Mateo Police Department.
