Duarte Weekly Crime Blotter December 16 - 22, 2018

Dear Duarte Community:

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of 12-16-18 thru 12-22-18
 
December 16, 2018
  • No significant activity.

  • No significant activity.  
 
December 18, 2018
  • No significant activity.         
 
December 19, 2018
  • A Fatal Traffic Collision was reported in the 1000 block of Las Lomas Road at approximately 5:20 pm.  A vehicle traveling northbound Las Lomas Road struck a 75 year old female pedestrian who was crossing the street with her dog.  The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk.  The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and called 911.  LA County Fire responded and attempted life saving measures, but were unsuccessful.  During the investigation, it was determined that neither speed nor alcohol were a factor. The pedestrian was a resident of Duarte. 
 
  • A Grand Theft was reported at 1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart).  Three male adults entered the store and selected two duffle bags.  They then entered the electronics department and selected approximately 50 Blue Ray DVD’s, placed them in the duffle bags and ran out an emergency entrance.  The suspect’s entered a gray 4-door Honda Accord parked on Hamilton Road and fled out of view.  The loss was estimated at approximately $1,000.  
   
December 20, 2018
  • Deputies responded to a call of a Strong Arm Robbery at 2315 Huntington Drive (CVS).  The store manager observed an adult male enter the store and select a pair of sunglasses which he placed on his head.  He then selected a beanie, removed the tag and placed the beanie in his pocket. When the manager asked the suspect to remove the beanie from his pocket, the suspect became uncooperative and started swinging at the manager.  When a second employee came to assist the manager, the suspect also took swings at her, however, never making contact with either employee.  The suspect then ran out of the store northbound on Mount Olive Drive and out of view.  The manager nor the employee were injured as the result of the suspect’s actions.        
 
 
 
 
 
 
December 21, 2018
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 2315 Huntington Drive (CVS).  An adult female was observed on surveillance video entering the store and selecting approximately six “Claritin” allergy medication packages and place them in her purse.  The suspect then exited the store without paying for the items.  She entered a newer model Toyota Corolla that was parked in the parking lot, and drove southbound Mount Olive Drive towards the freeway and out of view.           
 
December 22, 2018
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1318 Duarte Road at “Cowboy Mex” convenience store. An adult male was observed on surveillance video selecting a poncho from a display table, then walking out without paying for the item.  The suspect walked westbound on Duarte Road to northbound Buena Vista Street and out of sight.  The loss was estimated at $120.
