Advisory

Theft of vehicle rims reported from Ridgedale Ave last night. Residents asked to report any suspicious activity to police.

Morristown Police are asking residents to be vigilant following the theft of "high-end" vehicle rims that took place last night in the area of Ridgedale Avenue. Anyone who observed anything suspicious last night is asked to contact police at 973-538-2200.

Although this is an extremely rare occurrence, here are some simple steps to take to prevent yourself from becoming a victim.

1. Consider parking your vehicle in a locked garage if possible.

2. If you don't have access to a garage, park in a heavily trafficked area or parking garage that is covered with surveillance cameras.

3. Invest in wheel and/or lug nuts that are locked with a key. While not foolproof, thieves will commonly move past your vehicle to one which is easier.

4. Turn your wheels to a sharp angle while parking. This makes it more difficult to remove lug nuts and again makes your vehicle a less desirable target.

5. Consider a vehicle alarm that has sensors for the wheels and rims.

6. Be vigilant. Report any suspicious activity to police immediately.
