Suspect arrested in string of retail thefts

On October 25, 2018, Fairfield officers responded to the report of a theft that had occurred at the Ulta store located inside the Solano Mall.  During the investigation, officers learned that over $4,600 worth of merchandise had been stolen by two African American males.  Approximately one month later, on November 19th another theft occurred at the same location.  This time the loss totaled approximately $6,000.  The officer who responded to this theft learned of an ongoing investigation into a string of retail thefts spanning several jurisdictions.  Fairfield detectives took over the investigation into the recent theft as well as the earlier incident.

While working collaboratively with neighboring jurisdictions, including the Vallejo and Pinole police departments, detectives were able to positively identify one of the suspects as Archble Crump a 40-year old Suisun resident.  During the course of the investigation, a third theft at Ulta occurred on December 13th.  This time the loss was over $10,000.  In each of the thefts, two or more suspects enter the retail store, select an empty merchandise bag, fill the bag with items, and leave the store without paying for those items.

Fairfield detectives received information that Crump was possibly living in San Pablo.  Using that information they conducted surveillance and located him leaving a residential area.  He was detained with the assistance of the San Pablo Police Department and taken into custody by Fairfield detectives for the thefts that occurred in November and December.  A search was conducted at the residence in San Pablo where he had been staying.  During the search officers located an assault weapon along with a large quantity of marijuana.  Mr. Crump had been living with Tanya Williams, a 28-year old San Pablo resident who was arrested and booked on charges of possession of an assault weapon and possession of marijuana for sale.  She was booked into the Contra Costa County jail on December 26, 2018.

Mr. Crump was booked into the Solano County Jail on theft charges.  From the five theft cases currently under investigation by the Fairfield, Vallejo, and Pinole police departments it has been determined that over $35,000 worth of merchandise has been stolen.  These are still ongoing investigations and no further information will be released at this time.

We would like to thank the San Pablo Police Department for their assistance in apprehending Archble Crump on December 26th.  This case is a great example of how information sharing between neighboring agencies can help end a rash of retail thefts.  It should also demonstrate to suspects thinking about committing crimes in Fairfield that we do not believe that our investigations end at our city limits.  Our detectives will travel wherever possible to solve cases and bring justice to our victims.
