Incident Summary

On 12/25/2018 at approximately 09:58 PM, Petaluma officers responded to look for a subject, later identified as Brent Taylor in the area of Western Avenue and N. Webster Avenue. He was reported to be intoxicated and confrontational with passersby. As the call progressed, the Petaluma Police Department learned the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office was also responding to a family disturbance nearby, in the 2800 block of Western Avenue.

Petaluma officers continued to the address to ensure the safety of everyone involved until deputies arrived. Soon after their arrival, Taylor violently swung the front door open and immediately rushed towards a Petaluma officer.  The officer gave several commands to Taylor to stop, but he refused and charged the officer with his hands raised. A struggle ensued.  One officer was hit in the face, punched and kicked in the torso and another officer was punched and kicked as well.  Taylor was ultimately detained with the help of other Petaluma and California Highway Patrol officers and Sonoma County Sheriff deputies.

Both officers sustained minor injuries.  Taylor was booked into Sonoma County Jail for two counts of threatening a peace officer and assault on a peace officer.
