High Surf Advisory until 04:00PM
The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a High Surf Advisory, which is in effect until 4 PM PST this afternoon.
* SUNDAY TIDES...Total tide at Astoria is expected to reach 10.8 ft around the time of the 1 PM high tide.
* MONDAY TIDES...Total tide at Astoria is expected to reach 10.5 ft around the time of the 2 PM high tide.
* SURF...Large westerly swell near 20 feet will result in hazardous conditions in the surf zone and on beaches through this afternoon.
* HIGH SURF IMPACTS...Surfing, swimming, fishing, boating, and observing large waves from rocks or coastal structures during high surf conditions is dangerous. All large waves are not alike. There is often an extra large breaker that can suddenly sweep a person overboard or off a large rock with no warning. The safest place to be during high surf conditions is in port and well away from breaking waves.
* TIDAL OVERFLOW IMPACTS...Overflow flooding is most likely to occur at high tide in low-lying areas near bays and sloughs and in the lower reaches of coastal rivers. Fraser Road in Tillamook County is most typically impacted by flooding at these levels.
* AFFECTED AREAS: NORTH OREGON COAST
Instructions:
Residents in the advisory area should be alert for rising water and take appropriate action to protect life and property. A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore. A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents.
