Currituck Co. Sheriff Susan Johnson cautions against drinking and driving this New Years Eve
Sheriff Johnson would like to remind citizens of common occurrences that threaten the safety and well-being of our citizens this New Years Eve.
The use of fireworks on holidays is increasing. Fireworks that are prohibited can be found by searching the North Carolina General Statute 14-410. Fireworks injuries can be devastating, bystanders can be hurt and fires can start easily on roofs of homes and yards. A good rule to remember is that if it leaves the ground OR explodes it is illegal.
The Sheriff has instructed Deputies to be on high alert and strictly enforce drunk-driving laws. Just as a reminder; reaction times are impacted with each drink. Make arrangements for a designated driver or call a cab, family member or friend for a ride home if need be. Please do not drink and drive.
Our goal is to have every citizen enjoy the start of the New Year in a safe, legal, and enjoyable manner.
Happy New Year from the Currituck County Sheriff's Office and may 2010 be a blessed year full of peace and prosperity for all of us.
