Coastal Flood Warning until 04:00PM Thursday

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Coastal Flood Warning, which is in effect from 7 AM to 4 PM PST Thursday. The Coastal Flood Watch is no longer in effect.

* WAVES...Swells around 20 feet will affect the coast today. Higher swells, 20-25 feet are expected on Thursday.

* COASTAL FLOODING...Today will see large waves on the beaches but no coastal flooding. Thursday will have larger waves on the order of 20-25 feet, strong south winds that will turn to the west, and unusually low pressure. Coastal flooding along the immediate coast is expected with 1 to 3 ft inundation around the time of high tide along the shoreline in coastal communities. High tides along the Washington coast will occur between 9 and 11 AM.

* Some Affected Locations...Westport, Ocean Shores, Moclips, Taholah, Kalaloch Lodge, La Push, and low-lying areas around Grays Harbor including Hoquiam and Aberdeen.

* TIMING...Today the largest waves are will occur around noon. On Thursday the largest waves are forecast to arrive midday. Coastal flooding is likely for around 2-3 hours before and after the time of high tide.

* TIDE INFO...High tide is around 10 AM Thursday. Low tide is around 6 PM.

* Impacts...These unusually large waves will run farther up the beaches. There could occasionally be splashing of waves over levees and other structures. Some beach erosion is possible, especially near the time of high tide late in the morning. Flooding of low lying areas along the coastline and around Grays Harbor is expected around the high tide on Thursday.

* AFFECTED AREAS: NORTH COAST ... CENTRAL COAST

Instructions:

A Coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water, and take appropriate action to protect life and property. A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing localized beach erosion and dangerous swimming conditions.
