On September 23rd 2018, the Newark Police Department was alerted to incidents of possible inappropriate communication between a Newark Unified School District teacher and a juvenile. Based on the information, Newark Police Officers and Detectives initiated an investigation into the matter, contacted the Newark Unified School District and received the District’s cooperation. Through their investigation, Newark Police Detectives identified six male victims, ranging in ages from 14 to 17-years-old. Detectives discovered that the teacher, Aaron Holbrook, a 42-year-old resident of San Lorenzo, had sent various inappropriate communications to the victims. The victims are not students at the school which Holbrook was teaching at. Holbrook is no longer employed by the Newark Unified School District.

The case was presented to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for charging, resulting in Holbrook being charged with six counts of 647.6(a)(1) PC – annoying any child under 18 years of age and 272(a) PC – contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Holbrook was booked at the Fremont Police Department Jail on December 7th 2018.
