Petaluma Police Department Press Release: Burglary Suspect Arrested

Incident Summary:
 
On December 8, 2018 at approximately 7:30 am, officers were dispatched to Friedman’s Home Improvement at 429 North McDowell Blvd on report of a commercial burglary.  At approximately 5:10 am, a suspect had accessed the nursery area of the store and began to collect merchandise.  The suspect was confronted by an employee at which time he fled the area with multiple power tools.  Officers were provided video surveillance footage of the suspect but were unable to locate him.
 
At 8:38 am, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Prince Albert Court on report of a theft from an unlocked vehicle.  The victim discovered his vehicle had been rummaged through sometime during the night.  Several small items were missing from the vehicle including the victim’s cell phone. 
 
At 1:25 pm, officers were dispatched to Kohl’s at 1363 North McDowell Blvd on report of a shoplifting suspect who was in the store at the time.  Officers arrived and contacted Evan David Thomas of Sebastopol.  Officers recognized Thomas from the video surveillance footage from the earlier burglary at Freidman’s.  Thomas was also found to be in possession of several items from Freidman’s and the stolen cell phone from the Prince Albert Court auto burglary.     
 
Thomas was arrested for 459 PC; Burglary and 496 PC: Possession of Stolen Property.  Thomas was transported and booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
