Girl Scout Troop 2205 and MBPD Launch "Kid Kit" Program in Manhattan Beach

The Manhattan Beach Police Department and the Beryl Heights Elementary School Girl Scout Troop 2205 have partnered to bring the “Kid Kit” program to Manhattan Beach.  Kid Kits were created by Girl Scout Troop 2205 to bring a little comfort to children facing stressful situations.  Kid Kits will be placed in Manhattan Beach Police Department patrol vehicles and will be used when police officers respond to calls involving children that may be traumatized by certain incidents. Kid Kits contain items for children of all ages. Officers will offer items from the Kid Kits to children to help soothe and occupy them.

Kid Kit is a project created by Girl Scout Troop 2205 with proceeds from their cookie sales.  As kindergartners and first graders the troop used their money to help local charitable organizations but they wanted to create a project of their own. The girls wanted to help children in a time of need. They thought they could provide a gift to a child in a difficult situation that showed someone cared and was thinking about them. Thus the idea of Kid Kits was born.

Thanks to a generous donation from Pelican Cases in Torrance, Kid Kits has enough cases to not only get this program off of the ground, but to maintain and hopefully expand it through the years. The troop will continue to restock the toys and other items with money they earn.  Girl Scout Troop 2205 hopes to encourage other Girl Scout Troops to adopt this program. Troop 2205 will gladly work with and train any Girl Scout Troops interested in developing similar programs in their areas.

The Manhattan Beach Police Department would like to thank Girl Scout Troop 2205 for all their hard work and bringing this program to Manhattan Beach.
