When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.


Notable Cases

On Wednesday, 11-28-18 at 1:47 a.m., Officer Ortiz was on patrol at the Westlake Shopping Center and saw two subjects walking carrying large backpacks walking towards closed businesses. Both subjects advised the officer that they each may have a warrant. The first subject, a 45-year old transient male, was arrested for a warrant for burglary. The second subject, a 31-year old transient male, was in possession of heroin and a credit card not belonging to him. He was arrested for those charges as well as the outstanding warrant.

On Wednesday, 11-28-18 at 3:29 p.m., Officer Farrar and Officer Tualaulelei were dispatched to the Westlake Shopping Center on a report of an auto burglary that just occurred. A security officer reported seeing a subject who was checking door handles and entering a Nissan Altima. The officers located the subject, a 39-year old transient male, and subsequently arrested him for trespassing, auto burglary and for a parole violation.

On Wednesday, 11-28-18 at 8:49 p.m., a 38-year old male Daly City resident was placed under a citizen’s arrest for tampering with a vehicle and prowling on private property. This occurred at the parking garage at 1851 Junipero Serra Boulevard.

On Saturday, 12-01-18 at 9:36 a.m., a 45-year old male South San Francisco resident was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) following a report of a public disturbance between the subject and employees at the IHOP Restaurant.

On Sunday, 12-02-18 at approximately 4:16 a.m., a 24-year old male San Jose resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic collision involving a fire hydrant in the parking lot of the Westlake Shopping Center.

On Sunday, 12-02-18 at approximately 11:09 p.m., a 27-year old male Daly City resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after the vehicle he was driving collided into a house on the 1000 block of Ocean View Avenue.

Between Sunday, 12-02-18 at 7:30 p.m. and Monday, 12-03-18 at 7:21 a.m., two work vehicles, a 2015 Honda Pilot and a 2016 Ford F150 were stolen from the parking lot at 125 Coronado Avenue. The reporting party had a GPS-tracker on one of his vehicles, and an app on his cell phone alerted him that the Honda was currently parked on the 400 block of 89th Street. Officers were able locate the vehicle and found a 27-year old female San Mateo resident who was in the Honda. Officers arrested her for vehicle theft, vehicle burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, and for possession of an illegal key. The Ford is still outstanding.



Robberies


There were two robberies during the past week.

On Tuesday, 11-27-18 at 1:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Mateo Avenue and Vale Street on a report of a disturbance involving a male who got out of his vehicle and threw the reporting party’s phone and punched the reporting party. The reporting party/victim, a 19-year old San Francisco resident, said she and the driver of a black Toyota Prius were initially involved in a traffic altercation elsewhere, which led to the reporting party/victim trying to record the incident on her cell phone. The victim said the suspect forcibly took her cell phone from her and threw it, causing it to break. Our investigators were able to identify the registered owner, and the next day arrested the suspect, a 39-year old San Francisco resident, for robbery.

On Sunday, 12-02-18 at 8:09 p.m., a manager at Old Navy and a Serramonte Security Officer were the victims of a robbery after they tried to stop two unknown subjects for leaving the Old Navy store without paying for merchandise. The manager and security officer followed the suspects to a parked vehicle, and a subject stepped out of the vehicle and gestured to his waistline as if he had a weapon and told the subjects to “get back”. This investigation is continuing.



Residential Burglaries

There was one residential burglary during the past week.

On Monday, 11-26-18 at 11:50 p.m., an unknown suspect pried open the front door of a residence on the 900 block of Brunswick Street. It is unknown if any property was taken as the victim was on vacation at the time. This same residence was burglarized a couple days prior, and three subjects were arrested in that case. This investigation is continuing.


Commercial Burglaries

There were two commercial burglaries during the past week.

On Sunday, 12-02-18 between 8:05 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., an unknown suspect removed a padlock via an unknown means to a locker in the men’s locker room at the Planet Fitness facility and stole a white and brown bag containing keys, blue tooth ear buds, and wallet containing credit cards and a driver's license. This investigation is continuing.

On Sunday, 12-02-18 at approximately 8:43 p.m., four unknown subjects stole almost $7,000 in merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods and fled the store. This investigation is continuing.



Vehicle Burglaries

There were seven vehicle burglaries and two attempted vehicle burglaries during the past week

• 3200 block of Geneva Avenue—a cardboard box was taken from a 2008 Toyota Corolla. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on 11-26-18 between 1:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.
• Parking garage at 2001 Junipero Serra Boulevard (3rd floor)—a coin pouch containing $10 was taken from a 2015 Nissan Rogue. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 11-26-18 between 10:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
• Parking garage at 2001 Junipero Serra Boulevard (3rd floor)—a bag containing miscellaneous items was taken from a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 11-26-18 between 10:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
• Parking lot at Westlake Shopping Center (on Lake Merced Boulevard)—nothing was taken from a 2004 Nissan Altima. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred on 11-28-18 at 3:25 p.m. **A subject was arrested. See “notable reports” for more information.
• Public Storage parking lot on Mission Street—an Apple MacBook Pro was taken from a 2002 Toyota Corolla. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 11-28-18 between 7:00 p.m. and 7:49 p.m.
• Unit block of Poncetta Drive—$62 was taken from a 2016 Honda Pilot. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on 11-29-18 between 7:15 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
• Chevron parking lot on John Daly Boulevard—camera equipment was taken from a Jeep Compass. The rear window was smashed. Occurred on 12-01-18 at 3:33 p.m.
• 500 block of San Diego Avenue—earphones, and a wallet containing credit cards and identification was taken from a 2009 Dodge Journey. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred on 12-02-18 at an unknown time. **On-line report made.
• 3200 block of Geneva Avenue—an attempted burglary to a 2014 Toyota Yaris. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 11-26-18 between 1:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.
• 3200 block of Geneva Avenue—an attempted burglary to a 2012 Toyota Camry. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 11-26-18 between 1:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.



Stolen Vehicles

There were five vehicles stolen during the past week. Two were recovered.

• Clarinada Avenue/Callan Boulevard—a 1990 Chevrolet C2500. Occurred between 1:30 p.m. on 11-28-18 and 1:25 a.m. on 11-29-18. **Vehicle recovered by San Francisco P.D. on 11-29-18.
• King Drive/Arley Court—a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria. Occurred between 1:00 p.m. on 11-29-18 and 1:37 p.m. on 11-30-18.
• Parking garage of 125 Coronado Avenue—a 2016 Ford F150. Occurred between 7:30 p.m. on 12-02-18 and 7:21 a.m. on 12-03-18.
• Parking garage of 125 Coronado Avenue—a 2015 Honda Pilot. Occurred between 7:30 p.m. on 12-02-18 and 7:21 a.m. on 12-03-18. **A subject was arrested in this case. See “Notable Reports” for more information.
• 400 block of Lakeshire Drive—a 1970 Cadillac DeVille. Occurred between 10:00 p.m. on 11-30-18 and 9:00 a.m. on 12-01-18.

Scams/Other

Social Security Number Scams

This week we received two similar on-line reports. One reporting party said he received a phone call from someone in Baltimore saying someone in Texas was trying to use his name and social security number to do some money laundering. The caller told the reporting party that the person dumped the truck with his information in it in Texas. The caller asked the reporting party about his bank accounts and his social security number. The reporting party said the caller told him to meet him in Burlingame at the Safeway parking lot on Howard Avenue. The reporting party did not meet him, but he did give the caller his social security number and home address.

The second reporting party said her caller ID read “Social Security” and was told that she had an arrest warrant for money laundering, trafficking and drug possession in Texas. The caller told the reporting party that she needed to protect her accounts by going through an “ADR” (alternative dispute resolution) or she would go to jail. The caller told her in order to do so, she would have to purchase several different gift cards at several different locations. The victim made $5,000 in purchases and gave the numbers on the back of the cards to the caller. The caller told the victim that the police would reimburse her, so it was safe. The caller told the victim she would be receiving a visit from the police department and the Social Security Administration to receive a new social security card. I just want to let you know that this is definitely a scam—a police department would not reimburse someone for purchasing gift cards to avoid arrest!

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event—Saturday, December 8, 2018

San Mateo County residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW) free of charge on Saturday, December 8th only by appointment. Residents are required to schedule an appointment at San Mateo County’s HHW program on line at www.smchealth.org/hhw or by phone at (650) 363-4718 and select option 3. You will be given the drop off location after you make your appointment. The limit is 10 gallons (liquid) or 50 pounds (solid) per appointment. No business waste accepted.

Accepted items include acids/bases, aerosol cans, automotive supplies (car batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, brake fluid), cleaning products, fertilizers, pesticides, flammable liquids, fluorescent lights (compact and tubes), paint, inks, and photo chemicals. No radioactive, explosive, medical or commercial waste is allowed. All waste collected is reused, recycled, or stabilized for proper disposal to achieve zero waste being landfilled.


Daly City Reorganization of City Council Ceremony—December 10th (6:00 p.m.)
