Middlesex Police Department Makes Arrest in Overnight Burglary
Middlesex Borough Police Chief Matthew P. Geist announced that the Middlesex Police Department has arrested Gabriel M. Bay, 50, of New Brunswick, who was charged with Burglary, Theft, Criminal Mischief and Possession of Burglary Tools in connection with a “smash and grab” burglary of Jozanna’s Casual Italian Restaurant, 409 Lincoln Boulevard.
On Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 05:30am, Officers Ryan Skow and Scott... Mulford responded to the business after it was reported that a glass window had been shattered and an unknown individual had stolen a cash drawer earlier that morning.
That afternoon, the Middlesex Police Department Detective Bureau teamed up with detectives from the New Brunswick Police Department, who were investigating a similar “smash and grab” burglary that occurred in their city at 08:30am. It was quickly confirmed that the same individual was responsible for both burglaries, identified by the New Brunswick Police Department as Mr. Bay.
Detectives Sean Flanagan and Paul Steffanelli were able to develop intelligence from various sources that Mr. Bay was staying at a New Brunswick address and arrested him without incident at 4:40pm.
Mr. Bay is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility pending an initial court appearance.
As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Mr. Bay are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
